Full Day
Siem Reap & Preah Vihear
Leisure
Beng Mealea is unique as a largely unrestored, “jungle-choked” 12th-century temple that offers a raw, Indiana Jones-style experience with massive sandstone blocks, thick vegetation, and intertwined tree roots, contrasting with the restored temples of Angkor. Built in the same style as Angkor Wat, it features sprawling ruins, a massive moat, and a mysterious, authentic atmosphere.
Koh Ker is unique for being a short-lived 10th-century Khmer capital (928–944 CE) featuring the dramatic, 36-meter-high seven-tiered pyramid temple of Prasat Thom, which resembles Maya pyramids.
Preah Khan Kompong Svay is unique as the largest single religious complex of the Angkorian era, covering 5 square kilometers, yet it remains a remote, largely unrestored “jungle temple” with very few tourists. It uniquely served as a major industrial center for iron production, a “pure land” Mahayana Buddhist site, and a critical, massive way station on the Royal Road.
Please review tour route map of Boeng Mealea & Koh Ker & Preah Khan Kampong Svay
PRASAT BENG MEALEA This temple is quite different to other temple sites. It has not been repaired and you can see how it looked when discovered. See how the jungle took over, causing the temple to collapse. Wander around the ruins, find a quiet place to contemplate the history. Many photo opportunities for you.
PRASAT KOH KER is in Preah Vihear province as well. This temple is like a Pyramid with seven levels up to the sky. Don’t miss the panoramic view from the top, wonderful for photos. We’ll also see smaller temples in the group – Prasat Krachap, Prasat Neang Kmao, Prasat Ling, Moat, and Prasat Bram, Prasat Chen. Most of these temples are cover by jungle as this area was abandoned and only recently discovered. Koh Ker not only one temples, there are so many temples you will see as we listed on tour map. Highly recommend you to visit this brillaint " Koh Ker Capiatl City" before Angkorian.
Preah Khan Kompong Svay bears the original name of “Bakan” which refers to a high tower or citadel. It is a large Khmer temple complex located in Sangkum Thmei commune, Preah Vihear province, approximately 105km to the east of Angkor. The temple is well known for three things ; firstly it was a Mahayana-Buddhism temple related the concept of pure land, secondly it served as one of the way stations (the temples d’etape) at least since 12th century on the east-bound ancient highway network (Royal Road) starting from Angkor Thom, passing through Beng Mealea to Preah Khan Kompong Svay, and thirdly, it is a industrial centre relating to the region’s iron mining, smelting and production activities.
It is clear that the main complex of the temple was built during the reign of three kings: Suryavarman I (1011-1050), Suryavarman II (1113-1150), and Javavarman VII (1181-1215). With regard to the general layout of temple, it is surrounded by four enclosure walls. The main sanctuay and outer enclosure are suggested to have been built by King Suryaravarman I; the second enclosure dated to the period of Suryavarman II. ; and the 3rd and the completion of the 4th enclosure, and baray are attributed to King Jayavarman VII.
