Angkor Wat is unique as the world’s largest religious monument (162.6 hectares), known for its 12th-century Khmer architecture, sunrise views, and intricate, enduring sandstone carvings. The Floating Villages (e.g., Kampong Phluk) on Tonle Sap Lake are unique for their adaptation to nature, featuring houses on high stilts and entire communities that live, work, and commute on water.
Kampong Phluk is a unique, stilted village on Cambodia’s Tonlé Sap Lake, distinguished by houses built on 6 to10 meter-high poles that adapt to dramatic, seasonal water level changes. Unlike strictly floating villages, this community exists within a flooded mangrove forest, offering a, close-up view of traditional Khmer, fishing life.
Dramatic Architecture: In the dry season, houses stand high on exposed stilts; in the wet season, the water rises to just below the floorboards.
Flooded Mangrove Forest: Visitors can take boat tours through a dense, submerged mangrove forest, which is unique compared to other, more open-water floating villages.
True Fishing Community: It is less commercialized than other, nearby tourist, villages, allowing a more authentic look at daily life, including stilted, schools and pagodas.
Ecological Adaptation: The community survives by fishing and, harvesting.

PRASAT ANGKOR WAT is the largest and most famous Khmer temple, built in the 12th century, between 1113 -1150, during the reign of Suryavarman II. Standing 65 meters high, the temple is surrounded by a large moat [Ko Tek]. The exterior and interior walls are covered with amazing base-reliefs.
PRASAT BAYON or ANGKOR THOM is a Buddhist style temple built in late 12th/early 13th century by Jayavarnam VII. Bayon has 54 towers representing the 54 provinces before and during the Khmer empire. There are over 200 smiling faces carved on the 54 towers. Bayon was a thriving capital but unfortunately was damaged in 1811 by Cham invaders.
PRASAT TA PROMH, built in late 12th century by Jayavarman VII was dedicated in 1186 to his mother. Originally this temple had a Buddhist background but later was converted to Hindu so some Buddhist galleries were destroyed and replaced by Hindu symbols such as Yoni and Lingam. Its location is 1.5kms from Bayon through the Victory Gate. Ta Promh is famous for the trees (called “Spung”) growing strongly up, on and over the sandstone block walls.
After finishing small tour , head to a local restaurant. You can tell your guide whether you prefer a local or western style restaurant. And than head to Kampong Phluk - Floating Village and ask your guide if you can stay and watch the beautiful sunset on Tonle Sap Lake or get some drink to enjoy time after busy day. Why not ???
FLOATING VILLAGES ON TONLE SAP The most popular sightseeing for locals and international visitors after finishing temples tours is to visit a floating village. Tonle Sap Lake is the largest lake in South East Asia, covering five Cambodian provinces. Most inhabitants around Tonle Sap are fisherman who also farm in the dry season. Cambodian floating villages are different to Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar, because in Cambodia they are built high off the ground on tall posts. From May to October the lake is flooded from the Mekong River which is the main water source for Tonle Sap. When in flood you will see the water rises up the house posts many meters. The floating village has no floating markets although pigs, chickens, gardens are commonly seen on floating pontoons. Most of the year (depending on water levels), you can have an adventure inside the Eco-forest by small boat.
